Pokhara · Nepal
Chinese chefs, 228 dishes, and a proper hot pot menu — on Lakeside Road in Pokhara. This is what Chinese food tastes like when nobody has adapted it.
Nepal has no shortage of restaurants with "Chinese" on the sign. What it has very few of is kitchens run by Chinese chefs cooking to Chinese recipes — which is the difference between a plate of chowmein and a table of Sichuan cooking.
Our menu carries 228 dishes across 24 sections: twelve chicken preparations, fifteen pork, thirteen seafood, plus buff, mutton and duck, and a vegetarian section of 48 items that is bigger than most restaurants' entire menu. Every dish is listed with its Chinese name alongside the English.
We are also one of the few places in the country running a full hot pot service — four broth bases, 27 add-ins and proper dipping sauces, cooked at your table.
Live prices from our kitchen — every dish below is on the menu today.
Sichuan cooking is built on málà — the numbing heat of Sichuan peppercorn against dried chilli. It is a flavour most Nepali kitchens leave out because it is unfamiliar. We do not.
Our woks run hot enough for real wok hei, the seared, smoky character that separates a stir-fry cooked properly from one cooked in a domestic pan. Fish arrives whole and is steamed to order with ginger and scallion. Buff and mutton are sliced thin for hot pot rather than stewed.
If you have eaten in China and missed it since arriving in Nepal, this is the closest you will get.
International visitors arriving via Kathmandu and domestic travellers from the capital, staying in Lakeside hotels, apartments and hostels a short walk away.
Local families, couples and friend groups who want a table big enough to share properly — round tables, dishes in the middle, the way Chinese food is meant to be eaten.
Doctors, government staff, engineers, project teams and business owners, for both working lunches and evenings off.
Lions Club and Rotary dinners, youth and student organisations, Aama Samuha gatherings and party functions.
Birthdays, anniversaries, farewell and welcome parties, family gatherings — we will set the room and help you plan the dishes.
Team dinners, corporate meetings and tour-group meals, with pre-ordering so a large table is served together.
Three things people consistently mention: the food is cooked by Chinese chefs in the Sichuan and Cantonese traditions rather than adapted to Nepali tastes; the menu runs to 228 dishes, far beyond the chowmein-and-momo shortlist most places offer; and we run a full hot pot service, which is still rare anywhere in Nepal.
Often not. Most "Chinese" menus in Nepal are Indo-Chinese — heavily sauced, sweetened and adapted. Our kitchen cooks the originals: dry-fried, numbing Sichuan pepper, fermented bean pastes, and whole-fish preparations. Dishes are listed with their Chinese names so you can see exactly what you are ordering.
